White House party crashers Tareq and Michaele Salahi in Manhattan on Thursday. Michaele Salahi opened up about her incident with Whoopi Goldberg on 'The View.' The White House gate-crashers yesterday backed off their earlier claim that Whoopi Goldberg got physical with Michaele Salahi during a taping of "The View" - a claim that sparked a backstage battle.
"I never said the word hit," Salahi told the Daily News at a lunch in the W Hotel with her husband, Tareq.
It was a "young employee" of the show who concocted the hitting story and told Goldberg about it, the Salahis insisted.
"Whoopi says, 'Oh, no, you effin' said it,'" Salahi said. "I started to cry."
The Salahis said they don't know the instigator's name, but said she had a dim view of the ladies on "The View."
"She said, when I was coming off the show, 'Those women are b-----s,'" Salahi, dressed in a skin-tight Betsey Johnson dress, said as she picked at a minipizza and fries. "I say, 'It's okay, I can deal with it.' She said, 'Did she hit you?' I go, 'No, she grabbed my arm.'"
The Salahis, who became infamous after they reportedly bluffed their way into President Obama's first state dinner last fall, gave their side of story a day after Michaele and other members of "The Real Housewives of D.C." appeared on "The View" to plug their show.
On yesterday's "View," Goldberg aired footage showing she lightly touched Michaele's arm. Goldberg was unapologetic about "choice words" she used when confronting the gate-crasher about the hitting claim.
"I told her she knew I didn't hit her," Goldberg said.
There were also clear signs that Michaele's cast mates have had enough of the publicity-loving Salahis.
During a "Today" show interview yesterday, Lynda Erkiletian said the Salahis lead a "phony, fake Bonnie and Clyde life."
The couple remain under investigation for their antics at the Obama state dinner. They insist they were invited.
