Florida Southern's Steven Wright led all Polk County Amateurs with a (-7), 65 opening round

WINTER HAVEN -- The 34th Annual Polk County Men's Amateur Championship sponsored by Bright House Networks takes place this weekend at the Lake Region Yacht & Country Club in Winter Haven.
20-year-old Steven Wright of Winter Haven holds a six-stroke lead over the field after an opening round (-7), 65. Wright could do no wrong Saturday, sinking eight birdies and one bogey on the day. Wright, a redshirt sophomore on the Florida Southern College golf team, played a role in the Moccasins' 2010 D-II National Championship. In high school, he was named team MVP in four straight seasons at All Saints Academy (2005-08).
It is altogether a great weekend for the Wright family at the Polk County Amateur Championship. Wright's 15-year-old brother Jared shot a (+7), 79 opening round and leads the 4th flight.
